In writing Shepherding A Child’s Heart, Dr. Tripp drew on his 30+ years of experience as a pastor, counselor, school administrator, and father. He now also includes 10 years of insights from teaching this material in his conferences offered around the world. In addition to speaking at conferences, Dr. Tripp is the pastor of Grace Fellowship Church in Hazleton, PA.  The things your child does and says flow from the heart, and Dr. Tripp’s Shepherding A Child’s Heart conference is about how to speak to and engage with the heart of children.

Biblical Parenting 1: The Call to Formative Instruction

As a new parent, I’m starting to realise that parenting doesn’t come naturally and I am slightly nervous about trying to bring up Oscar so that he loves Jesus. Churches need to help parents be good biblical parents who bring their children up ‘in the ways of the Lord‘, but lots of Christian advice though isn’t always that biblical.  While we say we believe that we’re saved totally by grace, it’s easy to bring your kids up like you believe in the law.  Promising rewards for good behaviour, punishments for bad behaviour etc.

One great Christian group I’ve come across in the last few years is the CCEF (Christian Councelling and Education Foundation) in the US.  One of the many things they do is aim to provide teaching on biblical parenting.  What is biblical parenting?  Simply, the aim is to teach parenting that’s in-line with what we believe about the gospel.  Here’s the first talk by Tedd Tripp of CCEF given at a recent conference on Biblical Parenting held at Mars Hill Church in Seattle.  All of the talks are also available on The Resurgence website.  I’ll keep posting the talks over the next week.
